The parts

The parts of the service, explained one by one

A presentation at The Last Farewell is not one long series of slides. You build it from parts, in the order of the service. Each part behaves differently: one repeats until you stop, another waits for a speaker, a third runs in step with a piece of music. Below you can read what is shown and heard in each part and when to use it.

Walk-in

  • Repeats until you stop
  • With music
  • Before the service

The part that runs while guests arrive and find a seat. Photos and music go round until the service begins.

  • On screen: one or more photos that alternate and keep starting again
  • To hear: one or more pieces of music in a row, which also keep repeating
  • The operator starts the walk-in and moves on as soon as the service begins
  • One good portrait is enough here; a series of ten to twenty photos works too

Speaker

  • No music
  • The operator clicks
  • As long as someone speaks

For the moment someone speaks. There is no music and the image stays calm.

  • On screen: one photo that stays as long as someone is speaking
  • With more photos the operator clicks to the next one, on the speaker's cue
  • The part has no fixed length: it lasts as long as the speaker speaks
  • You can use the speaker's name as the name of the part and add the text of the speech

Photo presentation with music

  • Runs by itself
  • As long as the track
  • Photos and videos

The heart of most services: a series of photos that changes by itself to a piece of music. In the selection screen this part is called "Piece of music".

  • The length of the track determines how long the part lasts
  • The photos are spread evenly over the track; a photo stays on screen for 8 seconds at most
  • If there are few photos for a long track, the series comes round once more by itself
  • Short videos can be placed between the photos
  • After the last photo the presentation continues with the next part

Piece of music that repeats

  • Repeats until you stop
  • With music

The same as a photo presentation with music, but it starts again when it has finished. Useful for a moment whose length you do not know.

  • Photos and music go round until the operator moves on
  • Suitable, for example, for saying goodbye at the coffin or a long line of condolences

Video compilation

  • Plays once
  • Own sound on or off
  • Background music possible

A part with one or more videos in a row, such as a clip from a birthday or a holiday.

  • Each video plays once, in the order you choose
  • For each video you choose whether its own sound is on or off
  • You can put background music under it and set its volume
  • A video that is too long can be shortened to the piece you want to show

A moment of your own

  • No music
  • Your own name
  • With or without a photo

For anything that deserves its own name: a poem, a moment of silence, lighting candles.

  • You give the moment a name and a duration yourself
  • With a photo, it stays on screen until the operator moves on
  • Without a photo nothing changes on screen; the moment is then only listed in the running order
  • There is no music with a moment of your own

Closing

  • Repeats until you stop
  • With music
  • After the service

The part at the end, while guests leave the room. It works like the walk-in.

  • Photos and music keep repeating until you stop
  • Often with a last portrait, or a slide with words of thanks

Waiting for start

For each part you decide whether it begins by itself or waits until the operator presses start. That way the presentation never runs on while someone is still speaking.

  • A part that waits only begins after one press of the button or the space bar
  • The preview shows the same waiting moments as there will be at the service
  • The operating instructions list for each part what the operator should do

Adding, moving and renaming parts

You start with a simple outline and adjust it until it matches the service.

  • With "Add part" you choose a kind and give it a name
  • You drag parts to change the order
  • You change the name of a part with the pencil next to it
  • The running order shows when each part begins and whether everything fits within the time
